Soapkills
Electro | Lebanon
Soapkills originated from the new electro scene that's emerged in the Middle East in the last ten years. Bred on various musical moods, ranging in scope from Chet Baker and Shirley Horn to Portishead and Massive Attack, as well as the singing stars of the Arab world -- Mohammad Abdel-Wahab, Asmahan -- the band composes original sounds while remaining strongly inspired by the classical Arabic repertoire.
Their melancholy sound combines Yasmine Hamdan's sensuous voice with minimalist electronic arrangements and flourishes, courtesy of Zeid Hamdan's delicate machine tweakings.
Soapkills is unarguably a pioneer of the Lebanese musical underground scene and its most successful group, it has literally become the soundtrack of post war Beirut.
