Twais
Classical Oriental | Syria
Twais is an oriental "takht" (oud, nay, qanoun and percussions) that seeks to find a personal voice for itself, while remaining true to classical Arabic music. A delicate balance that is most represented by the historic figure of “Twais”, one of the first classical oriental male vocalists, one who held great influence during his era, and was such a controversial figure that he was eventually murdered.
Here is an exceptional group of musicians, which includes some of the finest talents rising from Syria today, that subtly manages to catch the zeitgeist of modern Syria with all its effervescence, along with its desire to remain true to Arabic roots.
Featuring:
Essam Rafea - oud | Feras Shahrestan - qanoon | Muslem Rahal - nay | Ragheb Jbeil - req
Guests: Mohamed Nameq - cello | Badi Rafea - percussions.
