Duende
Classical Oriental | Lebanon | 2007
Four ways to describe a struggle; the struggle of a culture on the verge of extinction, of a civilization engaged in a perpetual quest for the raging and exhilarating desire of life. Is it the duende, a singing ritual that marks the heroic killing of the bull, in Spain; it is a state of trance that finds its only equivalent in the tarab, leading its audience to a condition of quasi-mystical ecstasy. These four pieces find their origin in the Arab- Andalusian repertory; they are re-examined by a young artist wavering between his classical formation, a passion for jazz and an oriental inspiration.
