Bakash
Jazz | Egypt | 2007
Franco-Syrian flutist Naïssam Jalal, acoustic bass player Miles Jay and tenor saxophonist Colter Frazier (both from the USA) met and formed the Bakash trio during a prolonged creative stay in Cairo. It is difficult to classify within a particular genre the musical substance presented on this first, self-titled album. Denoting a certain ambience rather than a specific musical mode, it is akin to contemporary melodic jazz and favors minimalistic repetition, as one of the instruments plays fixed sentences and leaves the others free to improvise around it.
