Zàrani
Classical Oriental | Lebanon | 2003
Born in Lebanon in 1967, Zad Moultaka began studying music at a very young age. In 1993, he deliberately terminated his successful career as an international piano soloist, in order to devote all his time to composition. He strengthened his ties with his native culture and clearly associated Western polyphonic compositional technique with the linear melodies and scales specific to oriental music.
Moultaka’s ‘Zarani’ was released in 2003; it is a reflective work based on a new interpretation of traditional Arabic songs, with the presence of the piano opening the possibility for counter responses and extensions. It features Lebanese singer Fadia Tomb El Hage on vocals.
