Aṣīl Ensemble - Mustafa Saïd
Classical Oriental | Lebanon + Egypt
The Asil Ensemble for Interpretative Traditional Oriental Arab music was founded in the beginnings of 2003 and remained a concept in progress and a platform for training until its first performance in Cairo in October 2003 being the initiative for a series of performances inside and outside Egypt. In all its performances, the group extends its musical approach from the already existent musical traditions in the east Mediterranean region with the spirit of the two previous musical renaissances: that of the golden age of Abbasside music, and that of the second half of the 19th century. The interpretation of this tradition takes two shapes both extended from within this same inherited musical tradition: different styles of improvisational variations on already composed pieces and instant improvisation of other works through vocal recitation and instrumental Taqasim.
Featuring:
Mustafa Saïd – concept & ‘ūd (short-necked lute)
Muhammad Antar – nāy (end-blown flute)
