Oriental Jazz | Syria
Born in Aleppo - Syria in 1981, Basel Rajoub started his musical career performing on the trumpet before joining the conservatory of the city of Aleppo, where he studied eastern and European classical music as well as jazz. Basel's music has hints of jazz mixed with oriental rhythms, in addition to piano and brass.
He started his career by arranging songs for and performing with Syrian singer Lena Chamamyan. Together, they won the Radio Monte Carlo award in September 2006. Both artists gained a wide popularity in the Arab world after numerous live performances in a number of major cities such as Cairo, Amman, Paris, Vienna and of course Damascus.
Rajoub played Saxophone in the tour of the album "Sprinting Gazelle" by London-based Palestinian singer and ethno-musicologist Reem Kelani, and has appeared with Lebanese celebrity Ziad Rahbani in concerts all over the Arab world and Europe.
He is currently based in Beirut, and has launched his first instrumental oriental jazz album, with some of the best young musicians on the scene in Damascus and Beirut.
